Veteran Hiplife legend Reggie Rockstone has poured out respect for Black Sherif after remarks by Nigerian media personality Adesope Olajide crediting Rockstone and other music personalities for reigniting Ghanaian interest in local music.

In a post on his X account, Rockstone responded to Olajide’s post, stating, “You are a good earthling and African! May Yah bless u!… We don’t fake moves,” he posted.

Rockstone also congratulated Black Sherif for his achievements and described him as a “wise young superstar.”

Olajide, in a video post on his Instagram account, credited the #PlayGhana Initiative spearheaded by veterans like Reggie Rockstone, Samini, and Smallgod, along with young star Black Sherif for shifting Ghanaians’ listening habits from foreign music (particularly Nigerian and Western) to local content.

The initiative aimed to promote Ghanaian music during the holiday season when diasporans visit.

According to Olajide, despite initial criticism, the movement changed mindsets among influencers and listeners.

How #PlayGhana Initiative led to Ghana’s streaming reclaim – Adesope Olajide explains

Black Sherif, who supported the cause early despite potential career risks, now dominates Ghana’s streaming charts.

His album ‘Iron Boy’ and single ‘Sacrifice’ topped 2025 Spotify and Apple Music charts in Ghana.

Olajide argues this collective effort proved that prioritizing local talent benefits the entire industry, with Ghanaian artists now “reaping the benefits” of reclaiming their home audience.
