Former Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong

A number of New Patriotic Party members in the Western Region have responded to a call by former Member of Parliament for Assin Central Constituency, Kennedy Agyapong, that the party should show amnesty to its defectors.

Speaking in Takoradi during former Vice President of Ghana, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s “Thank You” tour, Kennedy Agyapong stunned the party’s supporters when he asked them to have mercy on former Minister of Trade, Alan Kyerematen, who quit the NPP to form his own political movement as well as a former National Chairman of the party, Paul Afoko, and others whose misconduct led the NPP to suspend them.

Some NPP members expressed their displeasure with Kennedy’s plea.

“No way! This cannot happen. No, it cannot happen,” an angry supporter reacted.

Other supporters, who kicked against Kennedy Agyapong’s proposal, described those who turned their back on the NPP as “saboteurs and traitors”.

“How can anyone who means well for the NPP suggest that we should bring back people who stood against our party and were rightly suspended. These people are saboteurs,” a female supporter expressed her disappointment.

A constituency executive also said; “I totally disagree with Ken and he should stop this because it is making some of us angry.”

“This is somebody who has left this party twice on his own. On the second time, he contested our primaries and left after he didn’t win. He didn’t only leave, he formed a movement and joined the NDC to campaign against us. Is this the person Kennedy Agyapong wants the party to bring back?. These are traitors and we cannot grant them amnesty.”
