The Majority in Parliament have expressed satisfaction with the Supreme Court’s ruling, which allows four MPs whose seats were declared empty by the Speaker to fully represent their constituencies and carry out their official duties.

In a post shared on the X page of Citi FM on Friday, October 19, 2024, the MPs declared, “We are the majority, and we will remain the majority! NPP MPs passionately declare as they exit the Supreme Court after the court halted the execution of the Speaker’s ruling on four vacant seats.”

A video accompanying the post also shows the NPP caucus in Parliament looking all excited as they leave the premises of the Court.

This comes after the Supreme Court issued a stay of execution on Speaker Alban Bagbin’s ruling, which declared the seats of Cynthia Morrison (Agona West), Kwadjo Asante (Suhum), Peter Kwakye Ackah (Amenfi Central), and Andrew Asiamah (Fomena) vacant.

The court’s directive means that the MPs will fully represent their constituencies and carry out their official duties.

The application to stay the Speaker’s decision was filed by New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament, who sought the Court’s intervention to halt the enforcement of the ruling that would have affected three of their colleagues and one from the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
