Klah asked whether Ghana has the leadership needed to steer the industry Klah asked whether Ghana has the leadership needed to steer the industry

Following comments made by musician KiDi about structural failings in Ghana’s music space, Robert Klah, Head of Public Events and Communications at Charterhouse, has pushed back against years of complaints that have, so far, failed to translate into real change.

Speaking on Hitz FM on October 1, 2025, Klah acknowledged that many are aware of the problems, including weak royalty collection, inadequate institutional support mechanisms, and intellectual property frameworks that don’t adequately protect creators, but wonders why the discussion has dragged on for more than a decade without commensurate action.

“Do we even have what it takes to improve upon the situation? We’ve been discussing it for more than 10 years, then it means that we’ve noted the problem ages ago.

“And so we are experts at pointing out where the problems are. But the question is, in terms of execution, solving the problem, how well have we done that?” he asked.

Ghana doesn’t have a functioning music industry – KiDi laments

Klah also questioned whether Ghana has the leadership needed to steer the industry toward reform.

He suggested that many in the space are willing to contribute and willing to be led, but there is a vacuum when it comes to strong leadership that can map out a direction and ensure accountability.

“We have a lot of people in the space who are willing to be led, and we don’t have leadership. We have people who are willing to contribute to growth and development, to introduce change, and to do whatever it takes for some form of growth.

“But we seem not to have leadership. We’re just waiting for somebody to feel it and say, ‘This is where we are going. This is what we are going to do’,” he added.
