Vinícius Jr. was shown a red card for shoving Valencia goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski in the 79th minute during Real Madrid’s clash with Valencia on Friday, January 3, 2024.

The forward’s actions nearly cost Real Madrid, who was chasing an equalizer, as they were forced to play the remaining 11 minutes with just ten men.

Despite the setback, goals from Luka Modric and Jude Bellingham helped turn the game around, securing a 2-1 victory for Real Madrid.

However, Vinícius’ ordeal at Mestalla continued, as this marked his second red card at the stadium in his last two visits.

The aftermath of the incident caught fans’ attention.

The Brazil international had to be restrained from confronting referee César Soto Grado by teammate Antonio Rüdiger and goalkeeping coach Luis Llopis.

Following the game, the 2024 FIFA Best winner issued an apology on X, tweeting: “Sorry, and thanks team!!!!!!”

A report from Mundo Deportivo discloses that Vinícius could face a four-match suspension.

However, Real Madrid’s head coach Carlo Ancelotti has revealed that the club plans to challenge the referee’s decision, arguing that the incident warranted a yellow card rather than a red.
