In November 2020, the Crosby Awuah Memorial (CAM) Park at Aiyinase, in the Western Region, underwent a significant renovation.
This allowed Karela United, who had adopted Akoon Park, to return to their home grounds for the 2020/2021 Ghana Premier League (GPL) season.
However, after just three seasons at CAM Park, Karela United adopted the Aliu Mahama Stadium in Tamale as their home grounds for the remainder of the 2023/24 GPL season and has continued to use it since then.
A video shared by a TikTok user revealed the shocking decline of the stadium. Once covered in lush turf, it is now reduced to a bare, neglected surface, left to deteriorate.
The individual in the video is heard complaining about the neglect and calling on officials to intervene and restore the stadium.
The video has sparked a wave of reactions from football fans, who have criticized the stadium’s caretakers for their poor maintenance and negligence.
Four years ago, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) banned the park following assaults on players and officials by home supporters during the MTN FA Cup Round of 32 tie between Karela United and Medeama SC on Sunday, June 20, 2021.
