Manchester United goalkeeper André Onana had a heartwarming meeting with legendary former United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar following United’s 1-0 victory over Fulham on Sunday, January 26, 2025.
The Cameroonian shot-stopper has faced intense scrutiny since joining Manchester United, particularly after a series of high-profile errors, including a costly mistake against Brighton.
However, Onana was reinstated to the starting lineup after being benched in United’s Europa League clash against Rangers on Thursday, January 23, 2025.
The decision to start Onana proved pivotal, as he delivered an impressive performance with two crucial saves and a clean sheet, helping secure a vital win for the Red Devils.
After the match, Onana shared a touching moment with van der Sar, who had worked with him during their time at Ajax. The two were also joined by Lisandro Martínez, another former Ajax player.
Onana was visibly excited, rushing to embrace van der Sar as the trio reminisced about their shared experiences.
Edwin van der Sar, who joined Manchester United from Fulham in 2005, is remembered as one of the club’s greatest goalkeepers.
During his illustrious career at United, he made 266 appearances and won numerous trophies, including four Premier League titles, one League Cup, a Champions League, four English Super Cups, and a FIFA Club World Cup.
