Ghanaian prodigy Jerry Afriyie scored a brilliant goal during Ghana’s last game in the 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifiers against Niger on November 18, 2024.

Afriyie tapped in a cross from the edge of the box in an instinctive finish to announce his presence in the team.

With the goal serving as the equalizer, head coach Otto Addo ran onto the pitch to hug Afriyie for his sublime finish that levelled the match.

Afriyie’s impressive performances on the domestic and international stages earned him this honour. He played a pivotal role in Ghana’s triumph at the 2024 African Games, where he emerged as the tournament’s top scorer.

More recently, he led the Ghana U20 team to qualify for the U20 Africa Cup of Nations, claiming the Goal King and Best Player awards at the WAFU Zone B Championship in Togo.

This historic call-up highlights the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) growing commitment to scouting and promoting talent from lower leagues.

Ghana has failed to qualify for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco after finishing fourth in Group F with three points from six games in the qualifiers.
