Former Liverpool defender, Jamie Carragher has apologized to club legend Mohammed Salah after making harsh remarks about the player’s conduct.
Salah had said he was “thrown under a bus” and had no relationship with Arne Slot after being left on the bench for Liverpool’s 3-3 draw against Leeds on Saturday, December 6, 2025.
It was the third successive game in which Salah had been excluded from the starting line-up by Slot amid the forward’s dip in form this season.
Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football on December 8, 2025, the 2005 Champions League winner with Liverpool criticised the Egyptian player, labelling his comments a “disgrace” and lambasting him for not winning the Africa Cup of Nations and for being a Chelsea reject.

This comment did not sit well with most football fans, who believed the sports pundit was attacking Salah rather than offering fair criticism.
During the Champions League show on CBS Sports Golazo on December 9, 2025, fellow pundit Micah Richards questioned Carragher’s remarks and gently compelled him to render an apology to the player.
This is how the conversation unfolded:
Richards: Can you give him a bit of love? Because I feel like… people are starting to say it’s personal now. I know it’s not personal.
Carragher: I don’t care what people say, I’m not interested in what people say. It sounds like you’ve been on social media for the last two hours. It doesn’t affect me, it doesn’t bother me.
Richards: Do you think social media affects me? Is that what you’re insinuating? It did affect me, I’ve spent all my time on X, formerly known as Twitter. I’ve got better things to do.
Carragher: I’ve got no problem with… I love Mo Salah, the footballer. I absolutely adore him. I’ve raved about him for eight years and I continue to do so. And it would be sad if he doesn’t get the chance.
Richards: So would you like to apologise to Mo and just say, I’m sorry for any disrespect. It just comes from passion, you’re a fan. Go on, just say it down the lens.
Carragher: Mo, I apologise if I’ve upset you. I love you as the Liverpool player, but you just need to behave yourself off the pitch.
