Lower-tier side Golden Kick FC shocked Hearts of Oak in the MTN FA Cup Round of 16, eliminating the Phobians on penalties at the University of Ghana Stadium.

Golden Kick advanced to the last eight with a 4-3 penalty shootout victory after the match ended goalless on Sunday, February 23, 2025.

The National Division One side missed their first spot-kick but bounced back to convert four in a row, securing the win. Whereas, Hearts of Oak, despite scoring their first penalty, missed two consecutive attempts, sealing their fate.

The Phobians’ domestic cup journey has come to an abrupt end, leaving them with only one route to CAF inter-club competition qualification—winning the league.

Meanwhile, the victory serves as redemption for Golden Kick, who suffered a 5-2 defeat to Hearts of Oak in the FA Cup two years ago.

They have now reached the quarter-finals for the first time in the club’s history.
