Luca Zidane in post-match brawl after Algeria’s defeat

Algerian players have been heavily criticized on social media for attacking the officiating officials after their 2-0 quarter final defeat to Nigeria in the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Desert Foxes of Algeria on Saturday, January 10, 2025, were eliminated from the AFCON after Victor Oshimen and Adam Akor scored to aid Nigeria’s qualification to the semi finals.

The final whistle turned chaotic on the pitch as Algerian players and officials attempted to attack the referees over what they call “unfair calls in the game” at the Stade de Marrakech.

Security quickly rushed to the pitch and escorted referee Issa Sy and his assistants Djibril Camara and Nouha Bangoura to deescalate the situation.

However, videos circulating online show that the Algerian players after their unsuccessful attempt on the pitch tried to attack the referees again in the tunnel leading to the changing rooms.

The uncultured behavior of the Algerian players and their officials have been widely condemned by football fans who have called on the Confederation of African Football to sanction them for disgracing the game.
