Asante Kotoko clinched their 10th MTN FA Cup title on Sunday, June 15, 2025, after edging Division One side Golden Kick 2-1 in a thrilling and controversial final at the University of Ghana Stadium.

It was a long-awaited moment for the Porcupine Warriors, who last won the competition in 2017.

The win ends an eight-year FA Cup drought and moves Kotoko closer to Hearts of Oak’s record haul of 12 titles.

Kotoko took an early lead through Kwame Opoku, who nodded home a precise cross to send their fans into wild celebrations.

But Golden Kick, unfazed by the stage, hit back in style as Bless Efe curled in a sensational free-kick to level matters before halftime.

The second half was fiercely contested, with both teams going all out for the win.

The match turned chaotic in the final minutes when the referee awarded Kotoko a penalty, a decision that sparked outrage among Golden Kick fans, some of whom hurled bottles onto the pitch.

Kwame Opoku stepped up and coolly converted from the spot, securing both his brace and Kotoko’s victory.

While Kotoko celebrated their 10th FA Cup crown, Golden Kick players expressed frustration over the officiating, confronting the referee after the final whistle.

Despite the loss, the lower-tier side earned plaudits for their remarkable run to the final.
