The Black Satellites beat Benin 1-0 in the 2025 West African Football Union (WAFU) Championship, progressing to the semi-finals of the competition.

The match, which took place at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence on July 16, 2025, saw the Satellites push for an early lead in the first half but they were unable to break down their opponents.

Ghana suffered a major setback when Medeama SC forward Kelvin Nkrumah received a second yellow card, reducing the team to 10 men for the entire second half.

Despite being down to 10 men, the team was relentless in their efforts, continuing to be resilient to avoid conceding.

The Black Satellites held firm, with Golden Kick FC winger Bless Ege scoring the game’s only goal in the 52nd minute.

Ege latched onto a precise through ball from captain Aziz Misbau and calmly finished to give Ghana the crucial lead.

The first half offered little in terms of goalmouth action, though Ghana goalkeeper Gidios Aseako was called into action in the 31st minute to parry a dangerous strike.

Ghana finished second in Group A with four points after an opening 1-1 draw against Nigeria, who also advanced.

Benin left the tournament without a win or draw in any of their games.
