Asante Kotoko were held to a one-all stalemate against Bechem United on Sunday, April 13, 2025, matchday 27 of the Ghana Premier League.

The game did not see many chances as both sides settled for a one-all draw at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

Darlvin Yeboah gave the visitors a first-half lead, but Albert Amoah pulled the home side level from the spot in the second half.

The game was significantly overshadowed by a controversial penalty decision that led to Kotoko’s equaliser.

Referee Joseph Kwofie awarded Kotoko the penalty after Bechem defender David Danso was involved in the incident where the ball struck his hand while he attempted to clear a cross with a diving header.

A video of the incident shows that the ball did indeed touch Danso’s hand. However, the angle does not reveal whether it deflected off his head first before making contact with his hand.

Bechem United threatened to abandon the match after the call, but regrouped and continued.

Nonetheless, Albert Amoah stepped up and converted the spot-kick and salvaged a point from the match.

Following the draw, Asante Kotoko retained their position at the top of the table but are now level on 47 points with Bibiani Gold Stars, who defeated Young Apostles.
