    Former Black Stars captain Abedi Pele, affectionately known as “The Maestro,” has turned 61 today, October 5, 2025.

    Abedi is widely regarded as one of the greatest African footballers of all time, having achieved numerous successes throughout his career and showcasing a unique talent that defined his generation.

    During his international career, he scored 19 goals for the Black Stars and left a lasting impression on Ghanaians.

    He was part of Ghana’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) winning team in 1982. The former Olympique Marseille star also led Ghana to a second-place finish in the 1992 AFCON, where they were defeated on penalties by Ivory Coast.

    By 1993, he had won three consecutive African Player of the Year awards, the UEFA Champions League, Ligue 1 titles, and the BBC African Footballer of the Year Award.

    He currently manages Division One side Nania FC, a club he owns.
