Harry Maguire has sent the internet into a frenzy after producing a stunning moment of skill during Manchester United’s 3–0 win over Athletic Bilbao in the Europa League semi-final on Thursday, May 1, 2025.
In a move no one expected, the centre-back broke forward in the first half, skipped past a defender with a slick feint on the right flank, and delivered a perfect cross that Casemiro nodded home for United’s opener.
It was a move straight out of a winger’s playbook, and the football world took notice.
Even commentators couldn’t hide their amazement. Scott Minto, covering the match, said Maguire’s run looked like “something Beckham would’ve done in his prime.”
The moment came in a match where United needed leadership and drive, and Maguire delivered both.
Two goals from Bruno Fernandes and a strike from Casemiro were enough as Ruben Amorim’s side built a commanding first-leg lead.
