Ghanaian highlife musician Fameye was caught in a viral video angrily lambasting a DJ and event organisers while performing on stage in the UK.
In the video, spotted on December 15, 2024, Fameye was seen lashing out at the DJ, for not playing his songs as requested.
Instead, according to Fameye, the DJ played songs and versions he had not asked for, frustrating him in the process.
At one point, Fameye requested that the DJ turn down the volume so he could better interact with the audience and hear himself clearly.
Although the DJ initially complied, he eventually increased the volume again, further irritating Fameye and disrupting his performance.
Unable to hide his frustration, Fameye then confronted the DJ, expressing his dismay.
He disclosed that they had rehearsed three times with the DJ before the event but couldn’t understand why things were going wrong.
Overwhelmed with emotions, Fameye shared with the crowd that he had asked the organizers to allow him to bring his own DJ, but they had said they couldn’t cover the costs.
He visibly expressed anger towards the organisers, stating that none of this would have happened if he had been allowed to bring his own DJ.
“I told the organisers to allow me to bring my DJ but they said they can’t pay him. Now looking at what is happening. Have you seen the turnout? This is very poor, see the DJ can’t even play a simple song meanwhile, we rehearsed three times before the event,” he said.
Fameye was also seen backstage lamenting to the audience about the situation.
“It is very disturbing and disheartening. I am heartbroken. Do you know how I wanted to perform at this show, even with ten people?” he added.
Speaking about the incident, media personality Caleb Nii Boye, who was at the event, explained the sequence of events.
“When Fameye went on stage, he requested a song to connect with the audience. He asked the DJ to lower the volume so his voice could be heard clearly. The DJ did that, but suddenly, the DJ increased the volume again.
“This upset Fameye, who went back to the DJ to try and resolve the issue. He also told the crowd how he wanted his personal DJ, but the organizers said they couldn’t afford to pay him,” he stated.
He added, “Fameye asked the DJ to play his original ‘Nothing I Get,’ but the DJ played the remix. At one point, the DJ started repeating songs. Fameye would request song A, and the DJ would play song B.”
Fameye, along with other Ghanaian musicians like Ofori Amponsah, Kweku Flick, Kelvyn Boy, and Nana Quame, among others, performed at the ‘Xmas Highlife concert’ in London.
