Augustine Boakye celebrating after scoring

Ghanaian midfielder Augustine Boakye showcased his brilliance once again for French side St. Étienne during their Ligue 1 Matchday 18 encounter against Nantes on Sunday, January 19, 2025.

Boakye, who joined St. Étienne from Austrian club Wolfsberger AC, has enjoyed a stellar start to his time in France.

Against Nantes, he underlined his potential by coming off the bench to rescue a crucial point for his team, who were on the brink of defeat.

Nigeria’s Moses Simon had put Nantes ahead early in the game, setting them up for what would have been their first victory in four matches.

However, St. Étienne’s coach, Horneland Eirik, brought on Boakye with 30 minutes left to play, and the Ghanaian repaid the manager’s faith with a sublime equalizer.

With just four minutes remaining, Boakye received the ball just outside the box. A deft touch allowed him to glide past his marker before unleashing a thunderous curling strike into the top corner, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance.

This was Boakye’s third Ligue 1 goal of the season, achieved in just 11 appearances since joining St. Étienne at the start of the 2024/25 campaign.

As the final whistle blew, St. Étienne secured a 1-1 draw, with Boakye’s moment of magic proving decisive in their fight for survival.
