A heartwarming moment unfolded at Benfica’s academy when head coach Jose Mourinho surprised a group of young players by joining them for lunch.

The youngsters were in the middle of their regular meal at the club’s Seixal training complex when Mourinho casually walked into the dining hall, leaving the room buzzing with excitement.

The Portuguese tactician, known for his charisma and larger-than-life presence, exchanged smiles and handshakes with several of the academy players before doing something few expected: he joined the queue and patiently waited for his turn to be served.

After collecting his tray, Mourinho sat down among the young talents, sharing jokes and light conversation as they ate together.

For many of the boys, it was an unforgettable moment, dining alongside one of football’s most decorated and respected managers.

Mourinho was appointed as Benfica’s head coach in September 2025. Since his appointment, the former Real Madrid, Chelsea, and Roma boss has overseen 10 matches, winning six, drawing two, and losing two, a steady start as he works to restore Benfica’s dominance.

Mourinho’s lunchroom visit may not appear in any tactics manual, but it was a moment that spoke volumes about the culture he’s trying to build in Lisbon.
