Fenerbahce boss, José Mourinho, was spotted grabbing the nose of Galatasaray Manager, Okan Buruk, in a post-match altercation following the Fenerbahce-Galatasaray Turkish Cup quarter-final on Wednesday, April 3.
In a trending video sighted by GhanaWeb, the former Chelsea and Real Madrid coach grabbed and pulled Buruk’s nose from behind, causing a brief commotion.
Galatasaray Vice President, Metin Ozturk, accused Mourinho of “physically attacking” Buruk and detailed what transpired between the two coaches.
“Our manager Okan and Mourinho congratulated the referees. After that, while Okan was continuing, Mourinho first verbally and then physically attacked him.
“Where else in the world can he do this? What does he think of Turkey? I believe that Fenerbahce’s management will impose the necessary sanction before the federation does,” he said.
Meanwhile, Buruk downplayed the incident but condemned Mourinho’s actions, noting that he suffered a minor scratch.
“There was nothing serious between me and Mourinho.
“He pinched my nose from behind. There was a slight scratch. Of course, it wasn’t a very nice or elegant thing to do. We expect managers to behave more appropriately in such situations. I won’t exaggerate this issue, but it wasn’t a classy move,” he stated.
Galatasaray won the cup tie 2-1, with Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen inspiring the visitors to a crucial victory.
José Mourinho and Fenerbahce are yet to address the incident, which could result in a fine for the manager.
