Abronye DCE after his release by the police

The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DCE, has finally been released by the Ghana Police Service.

This is after he met the GH¢50,000 bail granted by the court, with one surety.

Viral videos on social media show the moment the regional chairman was released by the police.

Abronye, who was beaming with smiles, was greeted with cheers by some supporters of the party.

In a brief remark, he told some of the supporters that they were “going to meet this evening to celebrate.”

The chairman then proceeded into the vehicle and reiterated that he was going to meet the supporters in the evening.

Abronye was arrested on September 8, 2025, on a charge of offensive conduct conducive to a breach of public peace.

According to police, the arrest followed comments he made publicly, including allegations against the Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno.

Prior to his arrest, Abronye had submitted applications for political asylum to eight countries: Côte d’Ivoire, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Canada, Spain, and Germany, citing political persecution, threats to his life, and misuse of state security powers by the current government.

A Circuit Court judge refused Abronye bail for a second time on Friday, September 12, 2025, and remanded him for one week, which sparked criticism from notable legal practitioners and even proponents of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
