Ga Mantse, King Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, made a grand arrival for the presentation of the 2025 Democracy Cup trophy on Friday, August 29, 2025.

The event, held at the Ga Mantse Palace, marked a significant stop in the trophy’s ongoing tour ahead of the highly anticipated football showdown in September.

Members of the Ga Traditional Council joined the King in welcoming the gleaming trophy, symbolising not only football glory but also the values of unity and democracy that the competition represents.

The Democracy Cup, instituted by the Speaker of Parliament in 2024, has quickly grown into more than just a football fixture. It has become a symbol of national cohesion, bringing together leaders, football lovers, and the public under one banner.

This year’s edition will be staged on Friday, September 5, 2025, at the Legon Stadium, where Accra giants Hearts of Oak will face off against city rivals Great Olympics.

Trophy Tour of the 2025 Democracy Cup continues

Before the main clash, there will be a curtain-raiser between Parliament and the Judiciary, with Parliament’s team captained by Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga.

In the days leading up to the tournament, the Democracy Cup trophy is being paraded across the capital.

Having made a stop at the Military High Command and the NCCE headquarters, it will next be presented to the president at the Jubilee House on September 1, before finally being placed on the big stage for the football battle ahead.
