Ghanaian defender Alexander Djiku was on the scoresheet for Turkish side Fenerbahçe during their 3-1 loss to Scottish club Rangers in the UEFA Europa League on March 6, 2025.
The Black Stars defender was introduced into the game in the 16th minute after Çağlar Söyüncü was substituted due to an injury.
In the 30th minute, Djiku pounced on a poor header clearance of a Fenerbahce corner with a delicious volley to the top right corner of the post to equalize for Fenerbahce.
The goal was not enough to secure the Turkish side’s victory after Václav Černý restored Rangers’ lead before the closure of the first half and added another in the 81st minute to seal a brace.
The Turkish club will be hoping to secure a massive win as they travel to Scotland to face Rangers in the second leg.
Head coach Jose Mourinho described the result as a “good one” despite the loss breaking Fenerbahçe’s 18-match unbeaten run at home.
Meanhwile, some Ghanaian football fans are delighted with Djiku’s performance as the Black Stars resume their 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar on March 21 and March 24, 2025, respectively.
