At a time when some Ghanaian musicians have reportedly secured deals with international companies for the management, distribution, and sale of their music catalogues, music duo Keche has revealed that they were also approached with a similar offer by Waka Music Limited.

In an interview on Asaasepa FM, the group explained that the approach was first brought to their attention by a close associate who lives in Spintex.

According to them, the person informed them that some people were interested in purchasing their catalogue, but they never followed up on the discussion.

The duo mentioned that selling one’s catalogue is not unusual in the music business, adding that musicians retain the right to still perform the songs even though it has been sold.

Keche also argued that there is nothing wrong with an artiste selling their catalogue, pointing out that they know of hundreds of musicians who have already sold theirs. They questioned why Ghanaians treat the subject as if it were strange.

“Waka Music reached out to us. A contact of mine from Spintex mentioned that some people had approached us, but we didn’t follow up with him. It’s all about the work. If we ever decide to sell our catalogue, the sole right belongs to us…There’s nothing wrong with selling your catalog; it’s not unusual, it making the news now, we don’t even understand it. Many people have sold their catalogues successfully,” Keche stated.
