Luxolo September, Head of TV and Communications at the Confederation of African Football (CAF), has announced that the governing body will provide an update within 48 hours on the ongoing situation and rumours surrounding the 2026 TotalEnergies WAFCON.

Speaking to the press, September confirmed that discussions on the matter have been ongoing for several weeks and are now receiving urgent, high-level attention from CAF executives. While he did not provide specific details, his statement signals the federation’s commitment to resolving the issue promptly ahead of the tournament, which is set to feature 12 national teams competing for Africa’s top women’s football prize.

The TotalEnergies WAFCON is a critical platform for African women’s football, attracting continental attention and serving as a qualifier for the FIFA Women’s World Cup. CAF’s forthcoming communication is expected to clarify arrangements, including hosting, logistics, and any potential changes that could affect participating teams and stakeholders.

Ghana are currently in the UAE preparing for the WAFCON 2026 which is expected to start in 2 weeks in Morocco. The Black Queens have been in fine form, winning their last 2 friendly games with over 7 goals scored. Any postponement could hurt their ambitions.
