The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has urged parents and guardians to exercise restraint as it investigates withheld results over alleged involvements in examination practices.

In a statement released on January 30, 2025, it announced that it had concluded the scrutiny of the scripts of these candidates and has invited them, accompanied by their parents or guardians, to meet with some selected staff for an opportunity to be given a fair hearing.

“The candidates are required to respond to the allegations of their involvement in examination malpractice. This includes writing of statements in the presence of their guardians. This is the concluding stage of the investigation after which the relevant decisions would be taken,” the statement indicated.

It clarified that the students are not forced into writing the statement as widely reported by some parents.

“They are neither coerced nor intimidated into writing these statements as is being alleged by some of the parents.

“We wish to appeal to parents, guardians and the candidates involved to cooperate with the Council to enable it expedite action on the results,” it added.
