A deadly head-on crash involving a VIP bus and a cargo truck on the Accra–Kumasi Highway has resulted in numerous fatalities and left many passengers injured.

The collision happened on Wednesday, June 25, near Oframase in the Kwahu West Municipality, close to Nkawkaw.

Preliminary accounts indicate that a VIP bus (registration number GR-2399) smashed into an incoming cargo truck transporting flour. The violent impact led to multiple deaths, with some victims severely disfigured.

Emergency responders, including the Ghana Police Service’s MTTD and the NRSA, quickly arrived at the scene. The wrecked vehicles were later removed to clear the heavily used roadway.

Most of the injured were taken to the Nkawkaw Holy Family Hospital and other nearby medical centers for urgent care.

Officials have not yet confirmed the exact number of deaths, as identifying the badly damaged remains has proven difficult.

While investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing, many motorists attribute such accidents to the poor condition of the highway, particularly its numerous potholes.

An official statement from the Ghana Police Service and the Kwahu West Municipal Fire Department is expected soon.
