Member of Parliament for the Old Tafo Constituency Vincent Ekow Assafuah

The Member of Parliament for the Old Tafo Constituency, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, has suffered a heavy dip in votes of some 8,519 in the 2024 parliamentary election.

The deputy minister of local government who contested on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) polled 34,097 votes, representing 68.46% of the total votes cast.

Even though he has secured a second term in office, this is a sharp drop from the NPP’s performance in 2020 when he garnered 42,616 votes, constituting 74.55%.

The trend was similar in the presidential elections as the vice president and flagbearer of the NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, also encountered an 8,693 drop in votes.

While his predecessor, President Nana Akufo Addo, swept a decent 42,363 votes, representing 73.96%, Dr Bawumia made 33,670, reflecting 66.52% of the total votes cast.

After the announcement of the results, Vincent Assafuah, who was visibly in a subdued disposition, walked off to his vehicle, unwilling to speak to the media.
