Ghanaian dancehall musician Shatta Wale has come to the defense of his close friend and associate, Isaac Kofi Oduro Boateng, popularly known as Kofi Boat, following reports of his arrest in a joint operation by Interpol and the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) over an alleged $100 million fraud scheme.

In a live video circulating on social media, Shatta Wale addressed the issue, making it clear that he does not believe Kofi Boat is a scammer, contrary to the growing speculations online.

The musician blasted critics and members of the public who, in his view, have been too quick to label Kofi Boat as a fraudster just because of the arrest.

According to Shatta Wale, what is unfolding is simply a “business deal gone wrong” and not a reflection of any criminal intent on the part of his friend.

He expressed deep concern over how people rush to draw conclusions without having the full facts and warned Ghanaians against taking joy in other people’s misfortunes.

He further expressed emotional distress over the impact the arrest has had on Kofi Boat’s family. “My heart breaks anytime I see his mother and kids. They don’t deserve this kind of pain. It’s really sad,” he added with visible frustration.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that Kofi Boat and two others were arrested on Friday, June 13, 2025, for allegedly running a sophisticated fraud syndicate involving Business Email Compromise (BEC) and romance scams that targeted individuals and companies between 2016 and 2023. The group is facing potential extradition to the United States after an indictment was issued by a District Court for the Southern District of New York.

According to the US Embassy in Accra, a formal request for their provisional arrest was made to Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in June 2024, leading to the issuance of an arrest warrant signed by Ghana’s Minister of Interior, Alhaji Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, on March 18, 2025.

Despite the gravity of the allegations, Shatta Wale’s defense underscores the uncertainty surrounding the case, especially as investigations continue and the suspects await possible extradition.
