According to the singer, several emerging musicians who are currently making waves with Afrobeats have openly acknowledged his influence and told him that he helped make the genre more appealing to them.
He mentioned young artistes such as Lasmid, Lalid and Kojo Blak, among others, as some of the musicians who have expressed their admiration for his contribution to the sound.
Kelvyn Boy explained that these younger colleagues have personally told him they consider him a pioneer of Afrobeats in Ghana and believe his musical journey encouraged them to pursue the genre.
Interestingly, the musician disclosed that these comments from the younger generation partly inspired him to name one of the songs on his latest album “Pioneer”.
According to him, the title reflects the feedback he has received from younger musicians who believe he played an important role in making Afrobeats attractive to the new generation of Ghanaian artistes.
However, when Zionfelix asked whether musicians from the older generation accord him the same respect and recognition, Kelvyn Boy made it clear that he was not waiting for anyone’s approval to acknowledge his achievements.
The singer maintained that his musical output over the past ten years, alongside the more than 25 hit songs he claims to have released, should be enough proof of his contribution to the industry.
His remarks also come as he promotes *2nd Step*, his 12-track sophomore album, which features collaborations with musicians including Medikal, Cina Soul, Kuami Eugene and Kojo Blak.
