Ghanaian actor Van Vicker has sued Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as Lilwin.

He is demanding GH¢10 million in exemplary damages over alleged defamatory statements made in a video amid an ongoing dispute between the two entertainers.

The suit, filed at the High Court of Justice in Accra, seeks a declaration that the statements attributed to Lilwin are libellous and defamatory against Van Vicker.

In addition to the GH¢10 million claim, Van Vicker is asking the court to award general damages for libel, order a public retraction and apology, and direct Lilwin to pay the costs of the legal proceedings, including legal fees.

The actor wants the retraction and apology published on news portals with the same prominence as the original publication for four consecutive weeks.

According to the writ of summons, Lilwin is required to enter an appearance within eight days of being served with the court document, including the day of service. Failure to comply could result in judgment being entered against him in his absence and without further notice.

Ebenezer Asare Esq. of Troth Legal is listed as counsel for Van Vicker.

The statement of claim refers to paragraphs 16 and 17 for details of the allegedly defamatory publication. However, those paragraphs were not included in the available court documents, leaving the specific statements at the centre of the suit unclear.

The lawsuit follows a public disagreement between the two actors over a film project, with Lilwin recently threatening to prevent Van Vicker from featuring in Kumawood productions unless he apologises over what he described as a disputed film arrangement.

Lilwin has accused the veteran actor of withdrawing from a planned production at the last minute, a decision he claims disrupted preparations and created difficulties for the production team.

Van Vicker, however, has disputed Lilwin’s account, maintaining that the version of events presented by his colleague was inaccurate.

The disagreement has continued to play out publicly, with Lilwin revisiting the issue in a video in which he insisted that Van Vicker owed him an apology.

He warned that the actor could face exclusion from future Kumawood productions if he failed to apologise, indicating his intention to ensure that Van Vicker no longer appeared in films associated with the industry.

Lilwin also claimed he would be prepared to pay producers to remove Van Vicker from a Kumawood project if he encountered him on set.

The actor has further maintained that he possesses documentation of the agreement reached between them over the earlier film project, which he believes supports his account of the disagreement.

Van Vicker’s decision to pursue legal action now places the dispute before the courts, shifting the matter beyond the public exchanges between the two entertainers.
