An urgent recall has been issued for three expensive sunscreens over concerns they may not meet their claimed SPF levels.
The TGA confirmed Medik8’s Physical Sunscreen SPF50+ in 60ml, 60mL Professional and 15mL sizes is being recalled by owner AC Newco.
The Physical Sunscreen SPF50+ 60mL is priced at $106 online.
The TGA said: ‘There is a risk that a lower than labelled SPF rating may increase the risk of sunburn during use and reduce the long-term effectiveness of preventing skin cancer.’
The products were sold in Australia and New Zealand between August 2023 and March 2026.
The TGA also urged consumers who purchased the affected sunscreens to stop using them.
‘Return the product to the place of purchase or contact medik8spfrecall@acskingroup.com or call 02 7248 5617 and provide photo evidence or proof of purchase to arrange the return of product for a refund,’ it said.
A Medik8 spokesperson said there had been no reports of adverse effects.
An urgent recall has been issued for three expensive sunscreens over concerns they may not meet their claimed SPF levels
‘Following independent testing suggesting the Medik8 Physical Sunscreen SPF 50+ may provide lower sun protection than advertised, Medik8 has initiated a voluntary recall of all unexpired batches sold in Australia and New Zealand between August 2023 and March 2026,’ the spokesperson said.
‘As this formula has been discontinued, consumers should stop using the product immediately and contact their point of purchase or visit medik8.com.au/pages/recall to arrange a full refund.’
