A man stabbed in the neck outside a public housing complex in broad daylight has died, sparking a homicide investigation.
Emergency services were called to Maloney Street, Eastlakes in Sydney‘s south at about 12.20pm on Monday following reports of a man lying injured on the footpath.
The man died at the scene, despite paramedics’ best efforts to revive him.
The victim is yet to be formally identified.
A crime scene was established and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death was launched by officers with the assistance of the homicide squad.
Dozens of uniformed and plain-clothed detectives spent much of Monday afternoon at the cordoned off scene as forensics scoured the area for evidence.
A police tent was also set up to shield the man’s body from public view.

Shocked residents recalled hearing a ‘commotion’ shortly before midday.
A woman was woken by the sound of voices, including that of a man saying ‘get the dog, get the dog’.
She claimed shouting and fights were a common occurrence.
‘It’s horrifying living here,’ the mother-of-three told the Daily Telegraph.
‘It’s crazy, but you’ll expect an incident to happen at least once a month.’
His attacker remains at large as of late Monday night.
