The Planning Committee for the 2025 Panafest/Emancipation Day Celebration led by Mr. Wisdom Ahadzi, the Director of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has held its maiden meeting at the historic Pikworo Slave Camp in Paga, marking the beginning of preparations for this year’s event.

The committee, comprising representatives from the Ghana Tourism Authority, the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC), the Regional House of Chiefs, the Kassena Nankana West Assembly, the Paga Youth Movement, and the Pikworo Slave Camp, convened to strategize for a successful celebration.

Scheduled for July 18th and 19th, 2025, the event will kick off nationwide Panafest/Emancipation festivities, with the Upper East Region playing a pivotal role in commemorating Africa’s heritage and the abolition of slavery.

During the meeting, the committee outlined plans to ensure a memorable celebration, emphasizing the region’s readiness to host visitors and showcase its rich cultural and historical significance.

The Pikworo Slave Camp, a key site of remembrance, will serve as a focal point for activities aimed at honoring the resilience of ancestors and promoting unity among Africans and the diaspora.

Following the meeting, the committee paid a courtesy call on the newly appointed District Chief Executive (DCE) of Kassena Nankana West Assembly, congratulating him on his nomination and briefing him on the upcoming event.

The DCE expressed his enthusiasm for the celebration, reaffirming his commitment to advancing tourism and cultural development in the region.

As anticipation builds, stakeholders are working to ensure that the 2025 Panafest/Emancipation Day Celebration not only educates and inspires but also strengthens Ghana’s position as a beacon of Pan-African heritage.
