Ukraine ‘once again’ received no early warning from allies of the latest Russian attacks on Kyiv, Volodymyr Zelensky has claimed.

Russian ballistic missiles targeted energy facilities in the Ukrainian capital overnight, killing one person and injuring two more.

A medical facility and a non-residential building were damaged in the attack during the early hours of Monday morning.

The strike was one of several attacks including 2,700 attack drones raining down on Ukraine in the last week.

President Zelensky appeared to hit out at his Western allies following the incident amid the growing row with Donald Trump.

Mr Zelensky said: ‘Another Russian ballistic missile attack came in several waves overnight, and once again, there was no early warning from our partners.’

He added that Russia had ‘launched 16 ballistic missiles in a deliberate attack on Kyiv and the Kyiv region’.

It comes as Mr Zelensky spoke with top US envoys over the weekend in an attempt to ease tensions between the two countries.

The Ukrainian president, who was accused by Mr Trump of not wanting to end the war with Russia, spoke with Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner as both Ukraine and Russia ramped up strikes on each other’s energy sites over the weekend.

Moscow has left thousands in Ukraine without power, while Kyiv carried out its largest drone attack on Saint Petersburg since the beginning of the war in 2022.

Late on Sunday, Ukraine’s army launched drones on Saint Petersburg which set an oil refinery ablaze, killing one and leaving five others hospitalised in the city.

Moscow has rained drones and missiles on Ukrainian cities daily and Kyiv says its strikes are fair retribution.

President Zelensky said: ‘In total, over this past week, the Russians have attacked Ukraine with almost 2,700 attack drones, 1,700 aerial bombs, and 66 missiles, most of them ballistic.’

‘The main targets of these strikes are energy facilities – the Russians are trying to cause a blackout.

‘And America should see that Russia is not taking any reciprocal steps in response to sanctions relief or agreements.’

He also recently accused Russia of breaking Mr Trump’s ‘energy ceasefire’ 76 times and warned the American officials of Moscow’s plans to deprive Ukrainians of heat and electricity before winter.

Yet Mr Zelensky and Mr Trump clashed as the US President blocked new sanctions on Russia and struck a diesel deal with Moscow, fuelling fears in Kyiv and Europe the White House was steering towards Moscow.

Mr Trump said on Sunday that he was in the process of negotiating a peace between Russia and Ukraine and making ‘great progress’.

But he claimed: ‘Zelenskyy doesn’t care, and frankly, with all of the money that Europe is famously giving him… he doesn’t want to end this war, and probably never did.’

‘Zelenskyy is using Diesel Refineries in Russia as a target, knowing that these attacks are seriously hurting the world diesel markets, including those in the United States.’

Earlier, after speaking to Mr Trump’s business partner Witkoff and son-in-law Mr Kushner, Mr Zelensky said ‘a lot depends’ on the US position in the war.

He said: ‘It is clear that there are many things that matter to all of us and that this war must be brought to an end.’

The Ukrainian president said he was ready to work ‘constructively’ and ‘honestly’,  adding: ‘We expect exactly this approach from all our partners – both from the Europeans and, of course, from the American side.’

The Kremlin, however, confirmed Ukrainian attacks on its cities will not change its war aims.

Putin has repeatedly said Moscow intends to seize the rest of eastern Ukraine, and, in a fifth year of war, few see a way out of the conflict.

‘There’s a general feeling: they’re attacking, we’re attacking – it’s become the dreadful routine of war,’ Saint Petersburg resident, Galina, said.

Sergei, another Saint Petersburg resident, said he felt his apartment block shake and quickly realised it was a drone attack.

‘I don’t know if I was scared, what must be will be,’ he said.
