UK weather LIVE: Snow causes school closures while hundreds of flood warnings come into force

Britain is braced for major floods today with hundreds of warnings in place as the country is battered by rain, snow and ice.

Commuters heading back to work for the first time face treacherous journeys this morning with yellow weather warnings in place across much of the UK which has resulted in many school closures.

It comes after heavy snow or icy rain over the weekend that resulted in major airports closing runways and cars stranded on roads.

Snow, rain and ice warnings cover most of Britain

Hello and welcome to MailOnline’s live coverage as Britain is battered by rain, snow and ice for a third day following widespread disruption over the weekend.

Commuters heading back to work for the first time face treacherous journeys this morning with yellow weather warnings in place across much of the UK.

Heavy snow has closed both runways at Manchester Airport, while flooding has blocked major roads and railway lines across the country.

More travel disruption is likely due to the adverse conditions, including flooding from heavy rain and thawing snow, the Met Office said, with more than 140 flood warnings and 277 flood alerts issued.
