Now, the British rivals are finally set to share a professional ring in a contest that could prove defining for both men’s careers.
Fury, 38, returned to the ring in April after another retirement announcement, beating Arslanbek Makhmudov on points. The former WBC heavyweight champion has won 36 of his 39 professional contests, with two defeats and one draw.
Joshua, 36, won Olympic gold at London 2012 before becoming a two-time unified heavyweight world champion. He has recorded 30 victories, including 27 knockouts, alongside four defeats.
Joshua’s most recent high-profile outing came in December 2025, when he stopped Jake Paul, before returning to the ring in July 2026 to defeat Kristian Prenga by second-round knockout.
The December showdown will give both men the chance to settle their long-running rivalry and claim a defining victory in front of a huge crowd.
The Principality Stadium can accommodate up to 80,000 spectators for major events, while Netflix is set to stream the contest globally.
Main-event ring walks are expected at approximately 1am local time on Saturday, December 12, although the final schedule remains subject to confirmation.

Fury against Joshua was almost the fight that got away, with the heavyweights now set to sort out differences that should have been settled a decade ago
At the top end of the scale, tickets cost a staggering £13,128, putting them among the most expensive publicly listed prices for a major boxing event.
The figure is not without precedent in a sport where premium seats can command eye-watering sums.
When Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao met in 2015, official tickets cost up to $10,000 (£6,700), while resale listings subsequently reached around £94,000 after the initial allocation sold out in less than a minute.
Meanwhile, a premium hospitality package for Mike Tyson’s 2024 bout with Jake Paul was advertised at $2million (£1.57m) for 10 tickets and an exclusive ringside experience.
Some individual ringside seats were also listed on the secondary market at $50,000 (£39,000).
