Two occupants of a KIA Mini Truck, a male and a female, were burnt beyond recognition following a collision with a DAF truck at Offinso Old Town in the Ashanti Region on Monday, January 12, 2026.

In a press release dated January 13, 2026, the accident involved a DAF truck with registration number GR 1367-W and a KIA Mini Truck AS 785-22, both travelling in the same direction.

According to eyewitness accounts, the DAF truck collided with the KIA Mini Truck while attempting to avoid an oncoming vehicle during an overtaking manoeuvre.

The impact caused both trucks to somersault and veer off the road, after which the KIA Mini Truck burst into flames.

“The two occupants trapped inside the vehicle were unable to escape and were burnt to death”, the statement said.

Two occupants of the DAF truck sustained injuries and were rushed to St Patrick’s Hospital before the arrival of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).

The driver later died while receiving treatment, while his mate is currently in critical condition.

GNFS rescue personnel arrived at the scene at 7:30 PM and, with assistance from members of the public using buckets of water due to a pump failure, managed to fully extinguish the fire by 8:14 PM.

The KIA Mini Truck was completely destroyed by the fire, while the DAF truck sustained partial damage. The charred bodies of the deceased occupants of the KIA Mini Truck were handed over to the Police for further investigations.

The accident scene has since been cleared, and traffic along the stretch has been restored.
