A man and a woman have been found dead in a suspected murder-suicide after a seven-hour standoff with police in a rural Queensland town.
The 23-year-old woman and 45-year-old man were found at a property on King Street in Charleville on Thursday morning.
Emergency services were initially called to a King Street address following reports of a serious assault on Wednesday evening.
Police issued a a lockdown notice at 5.59pm for multiple streets, with residents urged to remain indoors while officers tried to detain a man who they suspected may be armed. The order was revoked at 1.42am, seven hours later.
In a statement to media just before 6.30am, Queensland Police confirmed specialist officers had found two bodies inside the home.
‘No police officers or members of the public were injured during the incident,’ the statement said.
‘The matter will be investigated by the Ethical Standards Command, and a report is being preparing for the coroner.’
