Kwadwo Boateng Agyemang, a former New Juaben North constituency chairman in the Eastern Region of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has threatened to lead a revolt against the party’s leadership if Alan Kyerematen, a former member of the party, is granted amnesty to return.

Speaking in an interview on Movement TV on April 30, 2025, Agyemang argued that Kyerematen has no real interest in the party, and therefore, the NPP should not consider welcoming him back after his second departure.

“Kyerematen previously left the party, rejoined, and later exited again to form the Movement for Change, under which he contested the 2024 general elections as an independent candidate but lost.

“I swear, I don’t think he would come, but if the party agrees to accept him, we will mobilize ourselves and fight against the party. If the party receives Alan back, we will demonstrate against the NPP leadership,” Agyemang warned.

The idea of granting amnesty to Kyerematen and other former members was initially suggested by Kennedy Agyapong, who recently stated that unity within the NPP would only be achieved if the party allows Alan Kyerematen and Paul Afoko to return.

He made these remarks during the NPP’s Thank You Tour.

However, Agyemang firmly opposes the idea, stating that Kyerematen has “crossed the carpet” twice and does not deserve to be pampered with amnesty.

“What is amnesty? Do we issue it twice? If a thief is pardoned by a president the first time, would he go and commit the same crime and expect another president to grant him another amnesty?” he questioned.

“Who is Alan? There will be a real revolution against the party should they allow him to rejoin,” he added.

Kyerematen left the NPP in 2024 after losing the party’s primary, citing unfair treatment.

He then formed his own alliance and contested the general elections independently but was unsuccessful.
