Trump rips Democrat’s ‘unfair’ Alaska midterms sabotage plot as he heads to South Carolina where race is razor tight: Live updates

By RACHEL BOWMAN, US SENIOR NEWS REPORTER and KATRINA SCHOLLENBERGER, US HEAD OF LIVE NEWS

    Updated: 13:08 EDT, 29 October 2026

Donald Trump blasted Democrat candidate Mary Peltola over the alleged Alaska Senate campaign sabotage plot as the countdown to Election Day begins.

Peltola has been accused of recruiting another candidate with the same name as Republican incumbent Dan Sullivan to take away votes from him on the ballot, which she denies.

The President called the alleged plot a ‘terrible’ situation.

‘It’s very unfair. It’s very confusing and meant to be. It’s a fraud,’ he told reporters in Washington as he boarded a plane to attend a campaign rally in South Carolina on Thursday.

Trump is heading to the Palmetto State to support Darline Graham in the razor-tight race to fill the seat of her brother, the late Senator Lindsey Graham who died of heart disease in July at 71 years old.

Control of Congress is at stake in the 2026 midterms and Republicans are working to maintain their narrow majorities in both the House and Senate, while Democrats are trying to flip the chambers.

Democrats currently hold a significant 8.2 per cent lead over Republicans with just a few days to go until Election Day, with the party poised for their largest blowout since Obama’s 2008 sweep.

Trump questioned whether Peltola would be seated if she won.

‘Well, you’re going to have to see what happens,’ he said. ‘It’s hard to believe that she could even be allowed to run.’

Trump cancels Kansas rally scheduled for Saturday

Donald Trump canceled the rally he had scheduled for Saturday in Kansas.

Danedri Herbert, the chair of the Kansas Republican Party, confirmed the cancellation.

The rally had been scheduled to support incumbent Republican Senator Roger Marshall, who is running in a tight race against Adam Hamilton.

The director of the Salina Airport Authority told KSNW-TV that it resulted from a scheduling issue.

The rally was supposed to be held at 10.30am in a hangar at the Salina airport.

James Talarico has best polling of Texas Democrat since 1988

Texas Democrat Senate Candidate James Talarico has the best polling in the state since 1988.

CNN’s Harry Enten noted that the outlet’s October 20 to 27 poll, with a margin of error of +/- 4.2 points, put Talarico up by six points.

That is the Democratic Senate polling since Lloyd Bentsen won in Texas in 1988.

Enten also pointed out that the polling showed Talarico’s opponent, Ken Paxton, as the least popular Republican Senate candidate in the 2000s, down 29 points.

House Speaker says pollsters will be ‘historically wrong’ on Election Day

House Speaker Mike Johnson told Fox & Friends he believes pollsters will be ‘historically wrong’ on Election Day.

He insisted that Republican candidates are ‘superior’ to their Democratic rivals and that the GOP will deliver better results on Tuesday than expected.

‘We have gigantic crowds, big excitement. It feels exactly like 2024 to me,’ Johnson said.

‘I’m telling you, the polls are gonna be historically wrong in this midterm election.’

Here are the 10 races that could determine control of the Senate

Republicans face an uphill battle to keep their Senate majority as the midterm elections quickly approach on Tuesday.

Republicans currently hold 53 Senate seats, and Democrats need to win at least four to control the upper chamber in the next Congress.

The following 10 Senate races are likely to determine Senate control

Congress to investigate alleged Alaska sabotage plot

The leader of the House Oversight Committee, Kentucky Republican James Comer, has launched an investigation into Alaska Senate candidate Mary Peltola’s alleged sabotage plot.

The committee sent leaders to Peltola’s former campaign manager, Elisa Rios, and Jerid Kurtz, a Democratic strategist who worked for the campaign.

JD Vance started out in the poor, fading Rust Belt town of Middletown, Ohio, before rising to the White House, a heartbeat from the presidency.

Days before a midterm that could break the Republican grip on the Buckeye State, the Daily Mail went back to the hometown that made him.

We stood on the porch of his boyhood home on McKinley Street. We met the psychic who lives next door.

Panic buttons, bomb-sniffing dogs and bulletproof glass: Inside the threats swarming the midterm elections … and the rhetoric that has officials on edge

Letters stuffed with white powder have been mailed to election offices in at least six states, as officials brace for threats and possible violence in the final week before the midterms.

The FBI and US Postal Inspection Service told the Daily Mail that they are continuing to investigate up to 100 suspicious mailings sent to election administrators this month.

The news has put state and local officials increasingly on edge in the run-up to Election Day as millions of Americans stream to polling places across the country and prepare to cast their ballots.

It’s unclear who is to blame for the suspicious mailings.

Trump escalates crackdown on illegal voting with new arrests in California fraud sting

The Justice Department on Monday announced charges against 28 foreign nationals in California accused of illegally registering to vote.

The action, which occurred with just about two weeks until the midterm elections, is an escalation of President Donald Trump’s crackdown on illegal voting in the US, despite scant evidence that such conduct exists on a meaningful scale.

It also comes about two weeks before the 2026 midterm elections, as the Trump administration has homed in on the Golden State amid broader claims of voter fraud.

Election Nostradamus Nate Silver predicts midterms could be ‘end of the Trump era’ if Republicans lose big

Polling guru Nate Silver said that if the Democrats win both the House and Senate in the midterm elections it will be ‘the end of the Trump era.’

Silver has been bullish on liberals’ chances to overtake the GOP in the November 3 elections, with his model two weeks ago giving the party a 94 percent chance of winning the House and a 75 percent chance of taking the Senate.

Speaking to Ezra Klein of The New York Times, he said a Democrat sweep could be ‘momentous.’
