Bola Oyinadejobi, husband of Yoruba Nollywood actress Toyosi Adesanya, has opened up about the harrowing journey the couple went through before welcoming their first child, revealing that his wife underwent four surgeries in 2023 and nearly lost her life during the last one.

Oyinadejobi made the disclosure while giving a speech at the naming ceremony of their newborn daughter, which held recently. Speaking with visible emotion, he said God had been faithful through a season that many people knew nothing about.

“God is so kind. He shut the mouths of hypocrisy when they thought it was over. I give glory to God because the journey was not easy. Many didn’t know that in 2023, my wife underwent four surgeries and almost died during the last one,” he said.

The couple welcomed their daughter through surrogacy, as earlier reported. Since the announcement, several of Toyosi’s colleagues in the Yoruba movie industry have visited her at home to congratulate her, including Antar Laniyan, Bimbo Oshin, Folorunsho Adeola, and Odunlade Adekola, whose visit was widely shared online after he was seen lifting the mood in the room and drawing smiles from everyone present.

Veteran actress Peju Ogunmola also paid a visit, and was photographed cradling the newborn. The moment resonated deeply with many who are aware that Ogunmola lost her only child last year.

Actor Muyiwa Ademola sent a cash gift of N200,000 to the baby, which Toyosi confirmed was the first deposit made into her daughter’s account. She described him as someone who had been supportive from the very beginning.

During a separate visit by actress Fausat Balogun, Toyosi revealed that there was no money in the house on the day her daughter was born, and expressed deep gratitude to Fausat for her prayers and unwavering support throughout the journey.
A resurfaced video of Toyosi recounting her fertility struggles has also been making the rounds online. In it, she disclosed that her journey to motherhood began in 2008, and included a laparoscopy, a dye test, and multiple failed IVF attempts. She recalled selling all her gold jewellery and pulling funds from her boutique to finance one of the IVF cycles, which also did not work out.

In a video she shared following the birth of her daughter, Toyosi thanked her husband for standing firmly by her side through everything, adding that their children born prior to the new baby would be well taken care of.
