WBO AP super welter champ Ryota Toyoshima (24-3-1, 13 KOs), 153.25, defeated OPBF ruler Tsukuru Midorikawa (6-1, 4 KOs), 153.25, by a unanimous decision (99-91, 98-92 twice) over ten hard-fought rounds on Sunday in Tokyo, Japan. Utilizing his lateral movement, the much shorter Tsukuru, former kick-boxing titleholder, fought well with occasional countering shots, but it was Ryota that maintained the pressure with his superior volume of punches. Toyoshima’s aggressiveness and stamina as well paid off in his unification of the regional belts.
Promoter: Teiken Promotions.
