The Ghana Police Service has apprehended 26 individuals for the brandishing and indiscriminate firing of toy gu.ns in public spaces.

According to an official statement from the police, the arrested suspects are currently assisting with ongoing investigations and will soon face court proceedings.

As part of the investigation, law enforcement officials have also retrieved several toy guns from the suspects, signaling that this issue is being taken seriously.

The police have also launched special operations aimed at locating and detaining other individuals involved in this growing trend.

The Ghana Police Service added that they are particularly concerned about the possible dangers this behavior poses to public peace, especially if individuals begin to mistake these toy guns for real firearms.

In their statement, the police have urged the youth to refrain from engaging in such activities, emphasizing that the act of firing toy guns in public violates Section 207 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), which pertains to offensive conduct likely to disturb public peace.

“The Police will do all that is necessary to ensure that our country remains peaceful and secure,” the statement concluded, reiterating their commitment to upholding public safety. The police have also assured citizens that they are taking every step to safeguard the nation from disturbances that could undermine the tranquility of the community.
