    Ghanaian-global music icon, Black Sherif, has shared the backstory of his song ‘Top of the Morning’, describing it as the ‘realest music ever made’.

    Speaking on YFM with MC and hype man Kojo Manuel, Blacko revealed that ‘Top of the Morning’ came to him unexpectedly while he was in New York in September 2023.

    He said he had just returned from a late-night studio session and was relaxing in his hotel room with his Bluetooth speaker connected, listening to beats, when the first line of the song , “decision I made in my pyjamas”, came to him.

    “The beat I take from studio come, I reach the hotel, I connect my Bluetooth speaker ein edey bang. Same beat, wey adey sit the couch inside, the first line e come my head be that ‘decision I made in my pyjamas’” he said in Pidjin mixed with English.

    Blacko explained that he then started describing how his mornings looked around that time.

    He added that it was also a period when he had constant conversations with his dad, and just like that, the rest of the lyrics came to him and he started writing.

    “I started describing how my mornings looked around them time, and then time I was speaking to my dad a lot,” he added.

    Black Sherif added that every time he listens to the song, it takes him back to that day and how he was feeling at the time.

    “When I listen to that song right now, edey take me back to that same room and the same feeling.”

    ‘Top of the Morning’ is one of 15 songs on Black Sherif’s recently released album, ‘Iron Boy’.
