In a rather bizarre turn of events, the Paramount Chief of Anfoega Traditional Area has banned, with immediate effect, any activities of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in his traditional area. His issue with the NDC has to do with the President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, nominating a DCE, which he disagrees with.

Information gathered alleges that he gave those sweeping orders because he felt disrespected by the President and the NDC after he personally called him to put in a word for the confirmation of one Madam Solace Dzeble, who is from his traditional area.

Angered by the President’s refusal to appoint his preferred candidate, he has therefore banned two Sub Chiefs, who are appointees of the North Dayi District Assembly, from participating and voting to approve or otherwise the President’s nominee, Mr. Ernest Adevoh.

Despite his orders and stance on the matter, the confirmation of the DCE nominee went ahead smoothly, with the President’s nominee being confirmed unanimously as the DCE of the area; Mr. Ernest Adevoh polled 30 out of 32 votes, with two votes against him.

In his acceptance speech after being sworn in, the DCE, Hon. Ernest Adevoh, promised to work hard for the benefit of all district inhabitants. He assured that, with the support of the MP for the area, they would ensure that His Excellency the President’s RESET agenda is achieved in the constituency.

There were wild jubilations throughout the constituency after the official ceremonies were completed. Reflecting on the boycott decision of Togbe Hodo and his sub-chiefs of the President’s nominee, the MP for the area, Honorable Joycelyn Quashie, indicated that chiefs play a pivotal role in ensuring inclusivity and development, and as such, she will continue engaging with Togbe Hodo, whom she describes as her father, to find an amicable solution to the issue.

With regards to development, she also pledged to work with the DCE to ensure that North Dayi Constituency moves in the right direction to achieve the needed development to benefit its people.

The confirmation of the DCE was graced by the Regional Minister, Regional Chairman, the Regional Women Organizer, the Regional Treasurer, the Deputy Regional Chairman, Deputy Regional Secretary, Deputy Regional Women Organizer, Deputy Regional Organizer of the NDC, among other executives.

As the dust has settled and with the overwhelming approval received by the President’s nominee as DCE for North Dayi, will the MP’s efforts solve the impasse between the chief of the traditional area and the DCE? Only time will tell.
