A 18-month-old baby girl has died after being hit by a car in Sydney‘s west.

Emergency services rushed to a home on Gulgoa Bend in Villawood following reports a child had been hit by a 4WD on the driveway about 12pm on Saturday.

Paramedics and a specialist medical team arrived at the property to find the child suffering from critical head injuries.

The 18-month-old went into cardiac arrest a short time later and was rushed to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead.

The driver of the vehicle, a 28-year-old woman, was taken to Westmead Hospital for mandatory testing and is assisting police with their inquiries.

A crime scene has been established at the home.

Officers from Bankstown Police Area Command are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

A report will be prepared for the information of the coroner.
