A tiny part of Wales is set to declare independence with passports due to be issued to 500 citizens.

Bron-yr-Aur, in Eryri, Snowdonia, will see a High Street embassy open later this year, while a national anthem is being created by a well known musician from the US.

The new nation will be headquartered at an 18th century cottage in Eryri, linked to former rock band Led Zeppelin.

Meanwhile, there are also plans to appoint a ‘Duke’ as a ceremonial head of state, North Wales Live first reported.

A constitution is reportedly being drawn up and the national budget will come from artistic and musical projects.

Bron-yr-Aur plans for its self-awarded status to help bring together worldwide networks of musicians and artists.

Scott Roe, who lives in the cottage linked to Led Zeppelin, said: ‘There are so many people around the world who do not realise Wales is a country and that Welsh is a living language.

‘That’s even the case with some people on this island (Britain).’

Bron-yr-Aur used to be a shepherd’s dwelling and became a holiday home to the family of future Led Zeppelin singer Robert Plant.

In 1970, Plant and guitarist Jimmy Page returned to the cottage to write their third album.

An open invitiation has been created, giving people the chance to become one of 25 founding members of the new nation.

Their participation will not make up a government, but will be a way of sharing the load of responsibilities.

‘We get approached by hundreds of people around the world wanting to do various projects,’ said Mr Roe.

Micronations are miniature, self-proclaimed independent states that are not recognised by other sovereign states.

The Principality of Sealand is a micronation in the North Sea, located off the coast of England.

It is one of the most well-known micronations in the world.
