    Kojo Antwi is a veteran Ghanaian musician Kojo Antwi is a veteran Ghanaian musician

    Today, our throwback lens focuses on the legendary Kojo Antwi and some of his iconic contributions to Ghanaian music history.

    Born Julius Antwi, but popularly known as Kojo Antwi, or Mr. Music Man, he is a veteran Ghanaian Afro-pop, Highlife, and Reggae artiste.

    With 22 albums to his name, Kojo Antwi began his music journey shortly after completing school. He started out playing in a band called Boomtalents, later becoming the lead singer for Classique Vibes (formerly known as Classique Handles) before eventually going solo.

    Thanks to this rich background and experience, it was no surprise that Kojo Antwi’s solo career took off quickly.

    He released his debut album in 1986 titled ‘All I Need Is You’, which featured tracks like:

    ‘I was deeply infatuated with Kojo Antwi but he thought I was joking’ – Paulina Oduro

    Hini Me

    Nyame Akye Me Ade

    Mire Be Bomu, among others.

    Following that, Kojo Antwi went on to release several other notable albums, including:

    Anokye (1989)

    Don’t Stop the Music (1991)

    Mr. Music Man (1992) — which earned him his famous nickname

    Groovy (1994)

    To Mother Afrika (1995) and many more, spanning all the way to 2009.

    Some of his timeless hits include:

    Mfa Me Nkoho

    Me Nya Ntaban

    Dadie Anoma

    Ammrika

    Pour Some Sugar

    Akonoba

    Awards and recognition

    Kojo Antwi has received numerous prestigious awards throughout his illustrious career, including:

    Millennium Excellence Award for Music (2021)

    Lifetime Achievement Award (2021)

    All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMMA) – Best Male Artist (West Africa) (2003)

    Kora Award – Best West African Artist (2000)

    He has also been honored with:

    The West Africa Tourism Award

    The Our Music Award

    Multiple Ghana Music Awards

    The Legends and Legacies Ball Award
