Three people are dead and two others are clinging to life after a horrific collision south of Brisbane that left one vehicle engulfed in flames.

A two-year-old girl was also seriously injured in the devastating crash, which unfolded on Waterford Tamborine Road at Yarrabilba just after 4.30pm on Saturday.

Police say a white Toyota HiLux ute slammed into a white Volkswagen station wagon, sparking an inferno that killed the ute’s driver, an 18-year-old man from Marsden, before emergency crews could reach him.

The Volkswagen’s driver, a 65-year-old man from Stafford Heights, died at the scene alongside a 33-year-old female passenger from Kedron.

Two more occupants of the Volkswagen, a 65-year-old woman from Stafford Heights and a 36-year-old man from Kedron, were rushed to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in critical condition.

A two-year-old girl travelling in the same vehicle was taken to Queensland Children’s Hospital, where she remains in a serious but stable condition.

Firefighters and paramedics worked frantically at the scene, using hydraulic cutting equipment to free a trapped passenger.

Police shut down the stretch of road between Camp Cable Road and Dollarbird Drive for several hours as crash investigators examined the wreckage.
